Miss Meany Samseng ?

I caught her in this pose today. She said.. "see, I look like Papa" ! She was imitating hubs who was sitting crossed leg.. but I don't remember hubs looking so 'mean'

Samseng or not ? Wuah.. cross legs some more..

After much coaxing, she gives me a sweet smile

Tonight's Dinner

I can be very impulsive when it comes to cooking. If I want to try a new recipe, I had to just do it. I was drooling over Health Freak Mommy's post about his dad's cooking and saw the turmeric chicken. I had to try it. I asked Shireen for the recipe and it's filed under homecooked food. Check her labels if you are keen to try.

This morning, I made a quick dash to the market and bought some turmerics. Asked my maid to defrost some chicken thigh and ribs, went home, pounded turmeric and onions and cooked the chicken.

When hubs saw the dish, he said OH NO ! Another curry chicken ? We've been having curry chicken for the past few days and I feel heaty, a sore throat coming up !

Well, I assured him this is one of the tastiest chicken dish I've cooked ever, and healthy too !

True enough, he polished the whole plate. A very simple, wholesome dish and non-spicy. Amber loves it too.

pounded onion, turmeric and garlic

Turmeric chicken, though not as mouth watering looking at Shireen's, taste really good. Easy to cook too.
Thanks Shireen, for the recipe..

A&W Root Beer - A Real Family Treat

We were at Ikea last Sunday evening. Need to get Amber's playroom up.

Little fart monkeys around the children area while I search for shelves and cupboards for her toys.

We had dinner at Ikea Cafe, food was good, did our shopping, loaded to our mini van and little fart still wants to 'jalan' some more. It was almost 9.30pm and we were all thirsty, hubs suggested A&W Root Beer Float. Gosh, I am thirsty, not hungry, the Ikea meatballs were still rolling in my tummy!

So, we ordered 1 large float to share :

The way I like it... frozen root beer mugs.

My little family giving a thumbs up. Can you see 3 straws ? For 3 of us !

The little fart likes it so much, she slurpped with 3 straws.

And hubs, he took the last sip. "Mmmm fong kor".
Just a simple root beer float is enough to bring smiles to my little family !

Restoran Kin Kin - Chilly Pan Mee @ Pandan Indah

Most of you would have heard of Kin Kin Pan Mee at Jalan Raja Laut. The old shophouse, you sweat and sweat and sweat more after having their signature chilly ? They have a branch at Jalan Perubatan 4, Pandan Indah, opposite the Pandan Indah police station and behind Pantai Hospital.

We were there last Sunday with BIL. I was fussing over Amber and forgot to take some interesting pics of the chilly*

Amber playing with toothpicks while waiting for our food. I know I should stop her but I just can't be bothered. .. Don't wanna create a 'drama' while waiting for my noodles

Tadaa !! Dried pan mee with poached eggs

and the soup with bits, pieces and remnants of poached egg. Somehow the sayur manis or shue chye miu is always a bit tough.

Mixed it all up... a bowl of hearty noodles.
Frankly, I find it very expensive. When I first had it , it was RM5 per bowl, now it's more than that. RM5.30 or RM5.50 (not sure coz for 7 bowls and drinks, our bill came to RM43). Comes in ONE size only, if you want more, order 2 bowls, that'll set you back about RM11 (ouch !!!)
All you have is some home made flour noodles, minced meat, ikan bilis and onion crisp. It's the poached egg that lends a special flavour. Break down the yolk, mixed with the noodles, it's heavenly.

*Too bad I did not take a picture of the signature chilly flakes. Let me warn you first, pay attention to the chilly, look carefully, the chilly sparkles !! Coz, it's laden with millionz of MSG flakes. Pay attention ya ! Nice but sinful !
Alternatively, make your own instant mee goreng pedas at home and throw in a poached egg. Taste just as good. I'll post it up once I make one for hubs (and after I've perfected my poached egg!)

Flabbergasted !

Last Saturday, while I was keeping myself busy in the kitchen measuring this and that.. preparing for the bakes and all, my maid stood there to look at me.. or rather look at me cook.
I know she's keen to learn but she never ASKs questions (that's what leads her to lots of trouble too..)

I chatted with her and asked her to observe, ask and learn how I cook. Secretly, I know she's been copying bits and pieces of my recipes on her diary, I came across them when I peeped into her room. I don't know why but the recipes are not whole.. just a line from here and there.

So, since I was in a good mood that day, anticipating a fun night with my gfs. I told her some of my cooking secrets and which recipe has the lowest cost, if she wants to run a food business, she's gotta look into food cost.

I asked her copy down recipes she likes.

You know what she said ?

Lil Miss Sweeper

Kids, they want to poke their nose in everthing we do. At home, we hide brooms and mops away from her, otherwise I'll have an extra 'maid' messing about.

Here, she's so busy 'helping' me. In fact, making a mess is more like it. More rubbish falls out of the dustpan than swept in :(
Will she help me with the housework when she grows up, when she's tall enough to handle the broom ? I wonder ?

Schoolmate Gathering

On Saturday, we had a massive gathering at my place. 26 pax including adults kids and maids. I was so looking forward to this long awaited gathering of my Convent Bukit Nanas schoolmates, we grew and shared so much together, their my best pals ! This is the first time ALL of us gathered as one BIG family. Everyone brought their kids along.

We agreed on a 'pot luck' at my place but I could not resist cooking this and that, dishing out my new and old recipes. We had sooo much food, enough to feed a battalion.

Here's bits and pieces of the day :

My 'signature' curry chicken. Everybody's favourite. I had to use 2 woks to cook 2 big fat chicken. With potatoes and all.. yummy...

My dishings : from top left : golden fried rice, vegetable dumplings, garlic bread
from bottom left : mee siam, durian cake, radish cake

Other dishes that missed the camera : macaroni bolognese, choux puffs with tuna and konnyaku jelly

Pot luck dishes that missed the photography session :
From Keith & Ai Me : Assam Laksa & Prawn Mee, watermelon
From Lizier : KFC
From Ei Leen : Lor Ark (braised duck in soya sauce)

I served the food 'buffet sytle' Cool huh ?

The groups : from top left, clockwise : the hubs, the wifeys, Charn Lim & Vic, the kids

Chee Yoke brought a fondue set. Excellent desert. Kids love it but I think we gals had more than the kids. Yummy !

Dip the yummy fruits and marshmallows to the fondue pot. Am thinking of getting a set too.

Kids munching to prawn cracker

The kids had as much fun as us

Amber & LiZie making funny faces

Our 'preciousness'

You know how it's like when girls gather ? Too much to talk about but too little time. The kids fell asleep while we were still yakking.
Girls, I hope we can meet up again before the school holiday ends. My house is always open and last Saturday was a memorable evening.
Thanks to ALL who made it ! We must do this more frequent !

An Evening at Gentings

My goodness, Genting is really crowded during school holidays. We went up the hills on Friday, after lunch, I thought we were sparead but I was so wrong. Parking is another issue. You have to set your antennae right and spot for people about to leave for the place was packed!!

We only had a few hours at Genting and decided to get the Annual Pass for Amber. Promo at RM78 yearly, it's worthwhile if you have a kiddo who never gets bored going for the same ride over and over again, day in day out, year in year out.

She has hers and I had to get one too ! Hubs gave me the honour of being her chaparone :(

There's this little ride Paris de Genting, a drive car ride where kids will go up and down the mini-genting-eiffel tower. Amber can go for this ride, 20 times !!!!!!!! I don't mind coz I need not accompany her. There was a long queue for other rides, I manage to coax her to stay for this and the gondola ride (mean mummy!) There's no way I'm going to squeeze and queue for the other rides.

The Gondola ride was the most boring ride ever, I could nap on it if they allow us to go round and round. zz ....

Then later, it was my turn for some fun. BIL brought me in as an invited guest to the Elite Club at Highlands Hotel. .

Entrance to Club Elite

Lobby

This floor is only for high stake gamblers, really serious stuff. I dare not even peek over the gamblers shoulder for long. They throw in real BIG numbers, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands at each play table. Looking at the chips makes my legs wobbly

BUT....

They serve food and drinks too.. hehehehe...

and it's darn good food... Premium coffee, cocktails, wine, Haagen Daz ice-cream, roast pork, char siu... the list goes on.. ALL MY FAVOURITES.... This terrible mummy left Amber with the SIL and enjoyed herself with the food (after a full banquet dinner), teruk huh ? We lied to Amber that we had tummy aches and need to see a doctor and left her with SIL.. After more than an hour, Amber was very uneasy, ngam ngam cham cham :

why so long ? why papa mama stomach ache, so long, nnggg nggg haven't come out ? why see doctor so long ????

terrible huh ? What to do ? If I told her the truth, you bet I'm not getting to set my foot in the club!

With our annual pass, I think we'll be making more trips to Genting soon.

Lousy Day Calls For Comfort Food

Somedays I just wake up feeling lousy, with a throbbing headache and had to have Panadol Actifast for breakfast. Thursday was such a day and I could not take MC. List of things to do, ie take father for his routine check up and that involves driving the whole morning.

I left my dad at the International Specialist Eye Center at Mid Valley while I go hunt for some proper breakfast to wash down my Panadol.

I wanted to do with just a donut and coffee and I chanced upon the place many moms been raving about - SBREAD. Located at a discreet corner at LG along the walkway to Gardens and opposite Big Apples Donut.

I had the 'Tickle Me Pink' set for RM5.70 it come with charcoal bread toast and yam jam with Pink Barley:

According to the see tau por in charge, the charcoal bread is made from a powdered and toasted Japanese bamboo plant, not easily available at the stores, . Verdict : Toast was fresh, crispy and bitey with bits of sunflower seeds, ie with 'substance'. Yam jam was something unique, with real bites of yam.. Really good and yummz.. thumbs up. Pink barley was just ordinary though.

I felt better after the toast, must be the charcoal effect, absorbing whatever rubbish and toxin in my tummy.

After sending dad home, I had to seek for another comfort food for lunch : Ampang Fish Ball Noodle. This is the best fish ball I had in KL, so far and I'm not kidding. Dont' be fooled by the other 99% of fish ball noodle stalls elsewhere. Most of them buys the fish balls from a supplier + instant MSG laden soup from ikan bilis soup and you get = fish ball noodles.

This stall is ORIGINAL. They make their fish balls from ikan parang, boils the stock for hours using remaining fish bones and makes their own fish cakes. He's off day is determined by the supply of ikan parang. No fish = off day !

Ampang Fish Ball noodle. Located at coffeeshop 'Restoran Chuan Hupp' at Bandar Baru Ampang, diagonally across Spectrum Mall.

My hor fun with additional fishballs. RM5.30. Worth every bite and I drank the soup till the last drop. It's amazing how this bowl of nutritous and satisfying bowl of noodles always lifts up my mood, that's what I call comfort mood.

She Wants To Go Botak !!!

She's so cheeky. I asked if she wanted to cut her hair short, she said :

I want BOTAK !!!!!!

Then she starts mumbling baby language. kluk klak kaklakkuuklakkeerr.

She likes to mumble baby language to annoy me !
