Downgrading to XP

Unable to download photos for a week. Downgraded my laptop to Windows XP cos some of the programmes I need to use is not supported by Vista.

I'm lucky to have my own IT Consultant, he's a good friend of hubs and me and also our makan kaki. He'll help us in any software or computer issues.

Over the last weekend, he fixed up my notebook but I need to re-download each programs one by one. I have problems with Picasa3, the downloaded copy is in Chinese, I dun understand leh..
and.. cannot get Yahoo Messenger up, feel so handicap without it.and.. cannot download photos from my camera for one whole week until this morning, after scrummaging my office for the download cd.

Anyway, to thank him, we went for a hearty lunch of hokkien mee, lor mee, and what nots at Ayer Panas, Setapak. This is a gem of a place with many hidden treasures of yummy good, reasonably

Look out for this sign, the food court is next to the field. rather run down, zinc roofed.

This is it. The stall we patronized,
Stall No 22 Ayer Panas Hawker Center.
8.30am - 6.00pm, Tuesdays to Sundays.
012-6247610

Some of their chiu pai choy is henessy lor meen, cantonese fried with wild boar meat or venison, lala & fish fillet fried noodle. I do not like wild boar meat but hubs and friends said it taste as good as usual pork meat, very tender.

Henessy boxes decorating the stalls.

Lor meen with a small portion of Hennesy. RM11 for a small bowl but the small serving is rather huge. The brandy makes the soup extra sweet and nourishing.

Also, don't miss the ais kacang next door. For RM2.70, you get all the works including roasted shandong nuts.. yumz !!!

Vegetarian Fast Food Center

Where I work, it's almost impossible to get non-halal food, it's either mamaks or food courts as there's no coffee shop anywhere nearby unless we drive out of the office. So, for a quick lunch, hubs and I like to go to the temple nearby, next to Wisma MCA. There's a canteen in the temple serving fast, quick and HEALTHY vegetarian food. They use minimal oil or salt in their cooking and yet tastes good.

They use sea salt and brown sugar and no MSG !!

For hubs, plate piled full for RM4 and for me, 3 dish & rice for RM2.80

Vegetarian Fast Food Center , 161 Jalan Ampang.
Monday - Fridays
Lunch from 11am - 2.30pm.
*Free Breakfast 7.30am - 9.00am
On the eve of every 1st & 15th day of the Lunar Calendar, there'll be steamed vegetarian char siew paus for sale around lunch time and on every 1st and 15th, free vegetarian lunch is served but it's only polite to give a little donation to the temple fund in return for the free food*.

Breakfast

My morning routines are quite a rush. He wakes up, I wake up and the moment she wakes up, everything comes to a stop. Amber will whine and cry to be carried and doesn't want to change pyjamas, don't want water, milk ... yada.. yada.. yada..

Nowadays, I just pack her to the babysitters, in pyjamas, diapers and all. Teruk huh ?

My breakfast in the office consist of food from mamak next door, bread /coffee or cookies /coffee. Both hubs and I are coffee fanatics. That's how I came up with my blog name too :)

For the whole week, I've been having my Riva Gold coffee and daily 'fei sei' dose of Gardenia Butterscotch. Mother in law recommend me this Brazilian coffee and I'm hooked. Take it sugar free, just a scoop of coffee + 3 scoops of Coffeemate ... mmmm.... yumz.

Riva has very low acidity level, no strong aftertaste. It's crisp and smooth. I'm ditching away my Nescafes and Ipoh Old Towns and no more expensive cafe coffees
Try it, available at Carrefour and Tescos.

Gardenia Butterscotch

Yesterday, I was at Mid Valley twice, once in the morning to accompany my father for his weekly post operation eye check up and later in the evening for dinner with my in laws.
Father's eye check up was very fast, in and out in less than 20 minutes, so we had early lunch at Prince Cafe , Boulevard (try any dish with pork chop, it's really yummy, must make note to take some pictures) and by 1pm, I was hungry again , terrible hor ? I had few hours to kill and went to Carrefour to get some buns. I was shocked, potato bread also cost RM3.10 !!!!! The other sausage, cheese and whatnots looked looks unappetizing and was sold in packs of 3 or 4.
Then I came across Gardenia butterscotch @ RM4. Try lah.
Verdict : delicious, delightful. Lives up to it " BETUL BETUL SEDAP.
I'm not a white bread fan but will go this bread.
Above picture was taken on way home. I gobbled almost the whole loaf all by myself. Fei Sei Lor...

Lau Heong Seafood

Last Sunday, Ah Yee treated us to dinner at Lau Heong Seafood, Bandar Baru Sentul. This place has been around for many years and it's a family favourite. We love Lau Heong for their tasty food, quick service and reasonable pricing. It can get very crowded and please be there not later than 7pm otherwise you will end up having to wait for a table.

Deep fried pork leg (chee sau) with Mongolian sauce. Looks spicy but it's not. The skin is deep fried till crisp and crackling. Really nice. The fats underneath the skin melts in the mouth. Sinful but nice.

Signature dish - curry fish head. Very generous with the fish bits. Most places now use fish fillet but Lau Heong sticks to their original recipe, meaty fish heads.

Lala in superior broth - Yumz ! The broth has a balanced taste of tsiao tsing chinese wine, chilli padi and ginger and sweetness of kei chee

Sweet potato leaves, quite nice, strong 'wok hei' flavour

Deep fried wings in nam yue marinate. Everybody's favourite, snapped up in no time !

Homestyle tofu - ordinary but goes better with mayo dip

Another signature dish. Prawns and squids with creamy sauce in banana leaf. Almost
every table in Lau Heong would order this dish. The creamy sauce is yumz and not spicy too.

The damage ? RM181.20 for 9 pax. Cheap or not ?

Tangkak Beef Noodles

We discovered a new makan place in town, Restoran Tangkak Beef Noodles at Jalan Imbi. This quaint shop was open only a couple of months ago. Quite easy to locate, directly opposite Overseas Jalan Imbi. Parking is a bit pricey , RM4 per entry and open car park behind the row of shops at the recently demolished Golden Dragonboat Restaurant (relocated to Jalan Kampung Pandan)

The noodles comes in 2 sizes, RM8.90 for small and RM11.90 for large. Not cheap for coffee shop standard but maybe one of the cheaper choices along Jalan Imbi !!
What makes the noodle special is the ever so tasty and fragrant broth, very 'yau mei' and 'kah heong' style.

I had the beef & stomach (brisket). They added some salty mustard vege or harm choy as garnishing and this adds a very tasty bite to the noodle.

They have a couple of outlets at JB and Malacca but only 1 in KL. According to the proprietor, it is difficult to source fresh beef locally. They could only source enough supply for 1 outlet.

Restoran Tangkak Beef Noodles
No 133, Ground Floor, Jalan Imbi
55100 Kuala Lumpur

Try and review this place, if you've time !
